Description:

The IBD Clinic team reviews surgical procedures specific for patients with IBD. Topics include:

• rectal sparing total abdominal colectomy compared to proctocolectomy where the rectum is removed
• ileostomy
• ileal anal-pouch anastomosis or IPAA
• J-pouch
• stricturoplasty for the treatment of intestinal strictures that may develop in Crohn's disease

The team discusses the goals of each surgical procedure, what a patient should expect, and situations where the surgery should not be performed. Throughout, the team answers surgery & IBD questions posed by patients and other health care practitioners.
